How Combined Sewer Overflow Tanks Are Helpful In Treating Wastewater

Sewage treatment plants are highly important for cities as they take care of the waste water by eliminating the harmful toxins that are generated both from domestic sewage as well as industrial sewage. The main work of a treatment plant is to make the waste water environment-safe, i.e., free from harmful chemicals before sending it out to the waste stream.

Sewage Treatment Plants Work

Combined Sewer Overflow Tanks

Combined sewer overflow (CSO) is a sewer system that doesn’t have separate components for storm water and wastewater, i.e., both storm water and wastewater flow through the combined system into a wastewater treatment facility. Whenever there are heavy rains, storm water is accumulated in a CSO holding tank, which helps in preventing overflow condition. The combined system includes untreated waste water in the same tank.

Which One Is Better?

If you are willing to install a treatment plant then you must be wondering which tank out of the two you must have. While septic tanks are considered more compact than combined septic tanks as they don’t have to deal with storm water. But, combined tanks are highly useful for their cost effectiveness. Moreover, with rains being experienced in every part of the world and the space crunch to build different treatment plants for both, cities are beginning to try out combined overflow tanks as well.

The modern technology is taking the water treatment to a new level, as the processed seepage is turning waste water into safe & secure drinking water. Combined sewer overflow tanks are helping a lot in implementing the water treatment facilities across the globe.
