Combined sewer overflow (CSO) is a sewer system that doesn’t have separate components for storm water and wastewater, i.e., both storm water and wastewater flow through the combined system into a wastewater treatment facility. Whenever there are heavy rains, storm water is accumulated in a CSO holding tank, which helps in preventing overflow condition. The combined system includes untreated waste water in the same tank.
Which One Is Better?

While septic tanks are considered more compact than combined septic tanks as they don’t have to deal with storm water. But, combined tanks are highly useful for their cost effectiveness. Moreover, with rains being experienced in every part of the world and the space crunch to build different treatment plants for both, cities are beginning to try out combined overflow tanks as well.
